We are seeking an apprentice Field Service Technician to join our growing team.
The Apprentice Field Service Technician undertakes a structured apprenticeship programme combining formal study with supervised on-the-job learning. The role is developmental in nature and is designed to build the technical skills, professional behaviours, and practical experience required to progress into a qualified Field Service Technician role over time. The apprentice course is held at Toyota Apprentice Centre in conjunction with Caljan Ltd. Candidate must be within 1 hrs drive of Derby.
The apprentice is not expected to operate as a fully competent technician and will work under appropriate supervision throughout their development journey.
At Caljan, we take pride in our engineers’ development. They are the front line of the company offering mechanical and electrical repairs to our customers FMCG warehouse machinery.
Essentials:
· Interest in engineering, mechanics, or electrical systems.
· Willingness to learn and develop over time.
· Ability to follow instructions and work safely.
· Good communication skills.
· Full UK driving licence (if required for operational travel).
Desirable:
· Basic mechanical or electrical knowledge.
· Previous hands-on or practical experience.
Salary - National Apprentice rate.
Key Responsibilities
Learning & Development
Participate fully in the agreed apprenticeship programme and complete all required coursework, assessments, and training activities.
Apply learning from the training provider within the workplace under supervision.
Engage positively in feedback discussions and development reviews.
Take ownership of personal development, skills progression, and professional growth.
On-the-Job Training & Support
Support qualified Field Service Technicians in delivering planned maintenance, installation, and service activities.
Assist with inspection, fault diagnosis, repair, and testing activities under guidance.
Observe and learn safe working practices, customer interaction standards, and company procedures.
Gradually take on increased responsibility as competence and confidence develop.
Health, Safety & Compliance
· Follow all company health and safety policies and procedures at all times.
· Work under supervision when required and never undertake tasks beyond current competence.
· Raise any safety concerns or risks immediately.
· Develop strong safe-working habits and professional conduct.
Customer & Professional Conduct
Represent Caljan professionally when attending customer sites.
Communicate respectfully and clearly with colleagues and customers.
Demonstrate reliability, punctuality, and a positive attitude to learning.
The apprenticeship is structured over multiple years, with development progressing through stages of increasing exposure and responsibility. Progression is based on capability, safe working, engagement with learning, and business needs.
The apprentice will:
· Attend scheduled training provider sessions (block or day release as applicable).
· Participate in regular check-ins with their Area Service Manager.
· Build competence through supervised practice and repetition.
· Prepare for transition into a qualified Field Service Technician role upon successful completion of the apprenticeship and demonstration of readiness.
Progression is not automatic and is dependent on successful completion of training, performance and organisational requirements.
